An Interview with saxophonist/ singer songwriter Lovely Laura
Ibiza is know to be a home of a lot of creative people. One of those people is Lovely Laura, a saxophonist/ singer songwriter. You probably know here from the Hed Kandi parties. But there is so much more to learn about this talented lady so we asked Laura for an interview. She said yes, and this is the result. Are you ready for a musical journey together with Lovely Laura? Lovely Laura thank you for your time to have this interview with us. Most people know you form the Hed Kandi parties but can you tell us more about Laura?
I am a female saxophonist/singer songwriter. My love for jazz leads me to study a jazz degree at Leeds College of Music where I began gigging with local bands etc. Then one night I was asked to jam alongside a DJ (something I’d never experienced) and it just started from there. It has led to a wonderful career and I am so very fortunate that my passion has turned into my profession.
You have played all over the world and you are the clubbing worlds most in demand saxophonist. Why you love Ibiza so much?
Well for starters I feel it’s now my home, so it is incredible to be able to drive 20 minutes down the road to play a gig here. The gigs also attract the best crowds from all over the world; you can’t help but buzz off their fantastic energy! Musically you really feel like you’re in the hub of it all. Not only that, this island is seriously magical. I’m happiest when I’m here. I met my wonderful fiancé here and I am eternally grateful for every moment I have in Ibiza. I’m in love with everything when I’m here!

You have been personally invited by Domenico Dolce (Dolce &Gabbana) to tour around the world can you tell us more about that?
I met Domenico Dolce at a private party on the island a couple of years ago. I was playing with my fiance (DJ Ben Santiago) and he enjoyed our set so much he asked us to play at one of his relations wedding. Soon after that we found ourselves touring the Dolce & Gabbana shops throughout Europe and Asia, whilst being fully kitted out in fabulous D&G outfits – dream come true!
You are signed at the prestige label Nu Jazz of Robin Millar CBE (Sade, Fine Young Cannibals, Randy Crawford, Everything But The Girl, Style Council) Is that the crown on your career?
I would certainly say it’s a big jewel in the crown! To have approval from one of the most successful record producers of all time is a massive reassurance when you’re in this business. The best bit about my relationship with Robin is when we make music together. He is without doubt one of the most musically gifted; inspiring people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We were introduced via the IMS also, whilst we’re on the topic of how amazing Ibiza is!
How does your favorite Ibiza day looks like?
Having a lazy morning breakfast with my fiancé and then maybe packing up a picnic somewhere special on the island. We love going out and finding new little places to go and hang out, whether a beach, up a hill. Just somewhere beautiful. Then maybe some nice fresh fish for dinner somewhere and then ending the day just chilling on our roof overlooking the sea… bliss. Btw, this rarely happens! We’re usually stuck on our computers indoors or in an airport somewhere dreaming of those perfect days!!
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
