A beach we definitely want to share with you, even though we hope that it still remains our little secret, is Es Xarcu. Es Xarcu is one of our favourite beaches and if you are looking for serenity and tranquility, it might be yours too.
Es Xarcu is located 9 km from San José on the southwest coast of the island. The beach is about 100 meters in length and approximately 15 meters wide. Its sand is natural fine-grained sand and the area a bit rocky. Once you’re in the water, the sea bed is soft and its water is very safe for swimming. The nearby cove is surrounded by pine trees and utterly unspoilt.
When you feel like satisfying your hungry tummy, you can eat your heart out in the famous chiringuito on the left hand side of the beach. Fresh fish or Mediterranean cuisine is prepared there for you, served at your sun bed if you wish. We love going here to eat lobster. To make your stay at Es Xarcu picture perfect, a few fishermen’s huts offer you a touch of romance.
You can get there easily by car from Cala Jondal and San José. From Cala Jondal drive to Tropicana and follow the sign to Xarco. Head up the hill till you reach a T-junction and take a turn left and go left again at the sign to Xarco. Take the steep and rough path to the right. From San José you head towards Es Cubells taking the road on the left, and make a left towards Poirroig. Just before you arrive at Poirroig there’s a camino off to the left which is rough, but brings you to the chiringuito at the right side of the beach.
Some of you might prefer the water route…. Getting there by yachts or motor boats is another option.
Looking for a perfect day on a quiet beach with a romantic view and good food? Es Xarcu will satisfy your wishes.
