Blogger Editorial Guidelines
Don’t worry, these are nothing out of the ordinary! We just want to give you an idea about our community and the way we operate. These guidelines have been developed through trial and error but they really seem to work for us. So please use these tips to improve your own blog. When you are successful, then so are we!
Keep in mind
Be sure to identify yourself as a blogger. But to stay in accordance with our guidelines, please do not post a link to your site.
Remember you are writing for an audience mostly consisting of holiday makers and people who are in love with Ibiza. Our experience is that those people are always in a good mood and we are here to bring them into a better mood with upbeat posts all about their future holiday on our beloved island.
All content must be original. Please do not duplicate content from other blogs or blog posts that you’ve already posted somewhere else. Google will punish us for duplicating content and will lower both our as well as your ranking. Therefore please write original, fresh content for the Ibiza Inside Blog.
Our articles range from 500 words (that’s about one A4 page) to 1000 words (that’s about two A4 pages). But please don’t stick to numbers. If you can tell your story in 300 words and it is highly entertaining, don’t feel that you must add anything in order to reach a certain amount of words. We go for quality rather than quantity. We have found that if you go over 1000 words, people tend not to read the whole post.
Use short sentences
We write for people as if it is a conversation. We use small sentences to keep up the speed, and we write in first person singular. People will feel that you are talking directly to them and will love and share your posts more. This gives us all a better Google-ranking.
Divide the post into subheadings. This is because people always quickly scan what a post is about. They use the subheadings to learn what they are going to be reading about in the post. If you have a bulk of text without subheadings, people will get overwhelmed by a sea of letters and skip your post. And that would be a shame.
Link to as many resources as possible
The more information you give them, the more people are likely to read your work. You will have an excellent chance to link to previous posts on your own blog. This is good for two reasons:
1. You introduce our readers to your own blog and your traffic will increase.
2. People will see that you know what you are talking about and that will establish your authority.
Both of our brands then grow, and that is what we love.
Try to quote people
Quotes always work in blog posts. It gives people something to relate to or hold on to. This will enhance your posts.
Including three or four photos with your article is really helpful. The plus here is that we post pictures that you like and the blog will keep your unique style.
Video is always a good communication vehicle, so if you have a small video to share, please feel free to do so. We love videos!
End with an engaging question
Always end your article with a question. For example ‘What is your favourite beach in Ibiza?’ We do this to motivate people to leave a comment. The more comments the better.
So, if you think you are what we are looking for and we can help your business grow too, then please mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To your success!
