San José (Sant Josep de Sa Talaia)
Sant Josep de sa Talaia is, although a small village, part of the largest municipality of Ibiza on the southwest of the island. It is named after the highest mountain on the island, Sa Talaia de Sant Josep. Talaia, the name of the mountain, means "watchtower" in Catalunian. The mountain is about 474 metres high so you can imagine what the view is like atop. Drive all the way up and enjoy this stunning view. We felt as if we were on top of the world when we drove to the summit and witnessed the sun setting at the end of the day...It was very romantic too! The municipality includes towns and villages like Es Cubells, San Agustin and San Jordi.
The municipality is home to Es Vedrà, in the waters near Cala Jondal, which is claimed to be one of the most magnetic places in the world. Also, a number of beautiful beaches and bays are situated at the coastline of the municipality. All those beaches are unique and it is up to you to choose one according to your mood and lifestyle. Added to that are of course numerous picturesque villages and towns. San José has even more to offer: Explore the “Ses Salines” Natural park by foot or on a bicycle. For those who need more excitement, go mountain biking! Ibiza has the perfect climate and terrain, so the dirt roads and trails that this area has to offer, are perfect for a good day of biking.
The little village of San José are located 10 minutes from the airport along the road to San Antonio and halfway up the Sa Talaia mountain. This charming village with few tourists is vibrant 12 months a year. The first thing you see when you arrive into the little village is the fortressed church which dates back to the 15th Century. This village is small but has got some nice restaurants to offer. We especially like the tapas at El Destino: fresh, fusion and as a good value. Raco Verd offers live music and in wintertime chefs are invited to prepare their favorite dishes. At Can Manyanet you might enjoy the Ibizan kitchen while sitting in the flower garden. There is a small supermarket for all your needs and a bigger one at a 10 minute drive on the road to San Antonio. Boutiques and galleries are open throughout the whole year.
San Jose, a cozy little village where life is fun all year round.![]()
