Internet on Ibiza. What you need to know

I can describe myself as a real internet addict. Marisa always has to drag me  away from the computer.

Can you imagine a holiday without your precious internet connection? Well I can’t… When you plan a   holiday to Ibiza and you find yourself in your villa high up in the mountains, you will have to get used to a  very slow internet connection, even if you have an internet connection.

You can do a few things: enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet without internet or you can use your phone and prepare yourself for a huge telephone bill. You can drive to the nearest café with a Wi-Fi connection, and the only thing you will lose is time. I can live with this option but our recent discovery is an iPad. You just buy a Spanish prepaid internet data card and off you go… We hope that with this information you can enjoy your holiday. And please don’t forget to turn off your data roaming on your phone. You don’t want to get home and find an unpleasant telephone bill in the mail.

  1. This is a good post, there is not enough information on internet access in Ibiza. There should be more free and open places to get online.

  2. Hi, guys! It’s obvious, so everywhere. Use of local operators are always better! Please more specific information.
It would be great if you share the information immediately. Which mobile operator is better to buy a SIM card? Where is their office? Which tariff is best for working with the data? Are there any particular selling SIM cards to foreign nationals?
Thank you for the interesting blog!

  6. On our last trip in Ibiza (2014) we used a Lebara microSIM card (3GB for €25) but beware, is working only on tablet or compatible phone (the iPhone has a nanoSIM so it won’t fit) (we also had a 4G WiFi modem especially for travel which we use it to share one data sim between our phones and tablets and couldn’t use it). Most likely, a prepaid SIM which is guaranteed to work with a laptop will work in a modem too if this is your case. Ask at the shop, anyway. We asked, the lady said “no” I said “yes” and the result was “no” 🙂 Good it worked on the iPad though. There are stores in Ibiza Town towards the “Puerto” area.

However, recently in The Netherlands (where we came from) T-Mobile offers 500 MB of roaming data for €25, valid 14 days. This will do for text messages, some maps and no photo/video upload.

By the way, starting with July 1st this year, in a the EU the roaming will go cheaper so watch your home operator for changes.

I have used a happymovil SIM card for years now. It’s pay as you go and is part of carphone warehouse or phone house in Spain. I use it in my mobile and simply turn on my mobile hot spot so other in the group can use it.
