Our new life on Ibiza
Ibiza; don’t we all love the island? Don’t we all want to live here? The last few years I spoke to so many people who made this step. And when they asked me: ‘why don’t you move to Ibiza?’ I always had an excuse: work, money, house, dog, friends and so on and so forth. Do you recognize this? Don’t worry. If you really want to move, there is a possibility. The only thing is to really want to do it, because as soon as you want this so bad, all these excuses will fade away. At least, that is my experience.
Ibiza Here we come
It was the end of June 2011. It was a sunny Monday afternoon and I picked up my boyfriend from the airport. He arrived a little later than me. As usual, I was daydreaming about living there. His first words were: ‘we are going to do it lady!’ The only thing I could whisper was: ‘ok’. And after two drinks we decided to go, but to go without a plan. Let’s just see what will happen we thought. Well, honestly, a lot happened.
The ‘plan we didn’t have’ changed during our last months in the Netherlands. We were forced to go to a different B&B in Ibiza, which turned out to be the best thing that happened to us. We met lovely people, and they introduced us to more lovely people. And the closer we got to the date to leave our home country, the easier it got. According to my Twitter account my dream was to live on Ibiza, work as a freelance writer and write a book. Two out of three dreams came true so far. It is only the book that still awaits. However, in hindsight, we could have planned none of it anyway. Nowadays I don’t believe in coincidence. It may sound a little vague but if you believe in your goal, funny stuff is happening. During one of my interviews I met the owner of VillaXL. This is a company that lets houses in different countries. After I finished my interview he asked me: would you like to become one of our agents in Ibiza? Hum, YES!! I still have no clue how to manage this, but with a little effort it should work. Right?
Finally in Ibiza
So here we are. Ten months after this decision, we DO live on the island. We sold the house, sold our stuff, I quit my job and we left the Netherlands at the beginning of March 2012. It was a completely new beginning, a new life, a journey to the unknown, because although we know the island really well, living on it is quite a different thing.
Living our dream on Ibiza
I am really happy to be a guest blogger for Ibiza Inside and I will post once in a while about our move to Ibiza. What are the big differences between living here and being on a vacation? What is easy to know? Of course, if you have any ideas about any subjects you would like to know more about, feel free to leave a reply.
For now, I will be enjoying the quietness of the island. Have a great day!
