Restaurant Sa Caleta on Ibiza

Sa Caleta by Michael Bennett
Yes he is back! Our very own Michael Bennett. This time he takes you to a wonderful fish restaurant called; Sa Caleta. Are you ready to be inspired, to book your flight to Ibiza and book yourself a table at Sa Caleta…? Then this post is for you.

Tasty Seafood on Ibiza

For a tasty seafood lunch extravaganza follow the road from the airport to Cala Jondal and just before the turn off to Cala Jondal you will see a sign on the left for Restaurante Sa Caleta. Drive down the dusty camino where you will find ample parking at the bottom. On the left you will see the restaurant. Here you will find all sorts of excellent Ibicencan seafood, from paellas and other rice dishes to all kinds of fish plus live crustacean, mussels and clams from the seawater tanks. Try with one of the excellent white wines from Rueda (the Verdejo grape variety is good) or an Albariño from Rias Baixas in Galicia. They also serve local wines. After your meal you must have the famous house specialty, Café Caleta (a flaming hot coffee, infused with local liqueurs, spices, orange peel and lemon.) Service is friendly, although it can be a little slow when busy.

Afterward take a romantic walk on the beach.

After all this you will need a lie down! Walk down to the 100m sandy beach below which is set in a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop of copper red cliffs. This beach has very shallow water, making it ideal for families and younger children. You can also partake in a local, in the know ritual, where you fill a bucket with water and the rich copper sand and then cover yourself all over in the home-made mud pack, you then roll in the nearby seaweed which sticks to the sand. Now lie down and bake yourself in the sun for 20/30 minutes until your self-made face/body mud pack is dry when you can then dive into the sea to wash it all off.
In the summer a masseur sets up tables at the beach entrance and next to the restaurant there is a chill out lounge area where you can have a drink and sometimes watch live bands in the evening. You will need to book in summer. The restaurant is open all year.
