Cars

On Ibiza it’s very handy to have a car at your disposal. When you rent a house in the countryside, it is even a must! We often experienced  that when we had to take a taxi after a night out and a few drinks, we regularly had to convince the taxi driver first to drop us off at our front door instead of leaving us at the bottom of the steep hill our house was situated. Apart from this instance, many more houses are a bit difficult to find as they are hidden very privately in the countryside of Ibiza and the streets sometimes don’t have a proper name. Therefore, it could be difficult for a taxi driver to pick you up at home. Moreover, when you’d like to explore the island and want to go off-road to that special small bay for example, having your own car at your disposal is a good option.

Many years ago there were not as many proper roads as there are these days. Driving around took twice as long as it does now and after rainfall it was quite a “different” experience to avoid all the potholes in the road. Sometimes we got stuck but even then, Ibiza kept its charms. Nowadays it takes around 45 minutes on average to drive to the other side of the island.

An easy way to rent a car is to book one on the internet before you travel to Ibiza. As soon as you arrive at Ibiza airport, your car is ready and at the end of your holiday you can leave your car at the airport again. Some car rental companies pick you up at the airport and bring you to their office, near the airport, where you collect your car. A great advantage is that if you book your car online, instead of at the local office on Ibiza, it could save you a lot of money if you complete the booking at least 24 hours before the time you want to collect your car. A credit card is needed to pay online as well as ID and a driver’s license, which need to be shown when collecting your car. The car will always come with a full tank of gas. Sometimes you must also return your car with a full tank, at other times you may return it without. In case you happen to return the car without a full tank whereas you were supposed to fill it, you must pay the price the rental company charges for the refill. This may cost you more.
