Markets

Ibiza offers loads of markets. In the countryside these are mostly visited by locals buying their groceries and fresh products such as fish, fruits and vegetables. In Ibiza Town, in front of the Croissant Show, there is an old market which is the place to buy organic food. In Santa Eulalia you will find a market for fresh products and groceries too. What I like most is to be part of  Ibiza life, being among the locals, and  finding specialities from the island such as Spanish ham, sausages and the freshest catch of the day.

The whole year through there are specialized markets where vendors - mainly people living on Ibiza - sell all their wares from stalls, on small blankets or straight out of their vans. Second-hand objects, brand new house ware, handicrafts, clothes…it’s all there. These markets also function as social events and meeting points for locals who can catch up with friends and neighbours and have their share in the local gossip.

There are also markets which are thereonly in the tourist season. The vendors offer clothes, jewellery, leather products, shoes and typical Spanish boots, handicrafts and souvenirs. Many of the products which are offered are made by local artists. While strolling along the stalls you might even have cartoonists make a portrait of you, so you’ll have a personalised souvenir.

Most markets start early in the morning and end just before lunchtime and the start of siesta. Most of the tourist markets are open all day long and end late in the evening.

In all, whether you are looking for a good bargain, souvenirs, local art or fresh products for a summer barbeque...paying a visit to one of the markets on the island will definitely make you find what you are looking for!
