Why you should live in Ibiza with your family? An open and honest interview with jewellery designer Tanja Ting.

This time we interview jewellery designer Tanja Ting. 7 years ago Tanja moved to Ibiza with her family. She did what a lot of people only dream of. When you are thinking of moving to Ibiza or another country this interview can inspire and motivate you to take that big step to your new life. Enjoy.

When was your first time in Ibiza?

The first time I was in Ibiza, was about 10 years ago on vacation and I moved here 7 years ago.

Why did you move to Ibiza with your family?

My husband and I decided on Ibiza for different reasons: We wanted to get out of the stressful city life, but still wanted to be close to  the craziness . We needed more light and sun since we are from the cold north, Denmark Copenhagen. We still wanted to stay in EU so we could only think of one place and that was Ibiza.

What do you do for a living?

I make jewellery, silver and gold and every little piece is made by hand in my little workshop in Ibiza town.

What do you miss most from your own country and why?

The hardest part of moving is always not having friends and family around but I now have a lovely group of friends here as well.

Was it difficult for your children to adjust to another culture?

Our children were born here and I truly think they love the Ibiza lifestyle. Every time we go on holiday they are so happy to get back.

What is favourite spot on the island?

It is very hard to pick one favourite spot, but I would properly say Salinas beach. It is a great place for swimming and playing with the kids in the summer and fantastic for long walks in the winter.

What is the best advice you can give to people who are thinking of moving to Ibiza?

The best advice I can give to people moving to Ibiza is “Be Patient “. When I say “be patient” I mean the service in restaurants, shops and in terms of work method. Everything takes a long time in Ibiza. People are very relaxed here and take their time and in many ways that is great because it means less stress. You just have to get used to it coming from Scandinavia like me where everything is more or less done right away and done properly. Not like here where I say this with a smile because in many ways I also find this  part of the charm.

Was it hard for you to set up your own business in Spain?

It was very easy to get started here with our business. You just have to be patient and like anywhere else in the world, it will help if you have a bit of money to start out with.

How does your day  looks in Ibiza?

My day starts with the kids, so it starts quite early. First breakfast and school run at 9.00 then one hour at the gym to get started, I get a lot of ideas when I am on the cross trainer. Then I go to my workshop and will stay there until I get our kids at 5 pm, then play and have some chill time with my kids and a family dinner around 8 pm. The weekends are mostly spent with family, friends or a small trip to Barcelona.

When we say Ibiza you say?

First thing that comes to my mind when you say Ibiza…Is heaven!!

Is it possible to buy a house without being a miljonair? ;P

    If so..

Where can we find these houses?

  2. Hi Liesbeth,

Thank you for you comment. It is possible to buy a house even if you are not a miljonair:). We have seen a lot of very nice houses in the campo(countryside)that were so cute and not that expensive. If you like it we can bring you in toch with some good real estate agents in Ibiza. And off course you can start by renting your second dream house to see if you love it and then eventually buy a house.

We wish you a great day and thank you for following us

    Hi guys,

we live in Norway, so we know sth about those dark and cold days. As Tanja mentioned here, we miss the sun too, but the main problem here is absence of nice, open and warm people. Last summer we took a trip to Portinatx,(second time in Ibiza) hired a car and we drove from north-to-south and west-to-east several times and we just loved it. Amazing island.
Anyway, we have decided to move there as well, but don´t know where to start.
    Any help?
