Moving to Ibiza? Stop dreaming and take action

A while ago we asked the Ibiza Inside community a few questions about what is holding you back, and what your doubts are about your Ibiza move. We’ve received loads of comments that were really useful to create content and modules to help you better.

The fear of returning back home

Number 1 by far was the fear of not making it in Ibiza and the need to go back home because you did not make it. Ibiza is a dynamic place that is changing rapidly. House prices are rising fast, and the rich and famous are now finding their way to Ibiza. It is absolutely not cheap and easy to live in Ibiza.

We have to be honest with you. That fear is so real. We know a lot of people who had to go back because they could not make ends meet in Ibiza. Now, the question is… is it because of Ibiza? Or could it be lack of preparation and the ability to pivot? Let’s talk a little bit about both concepts here.

You need to prepare if you’d like to move to Ibiza. You need to know your numbers, and save at least 25.000 Euros to survive the first year. You need to get your hands dirty and make actual connections with the people here to find a job or to set up your business.

Book a flight if you’d like to purchase a property on Ibiza. Don’t think that you are going to find anything from behind a computer screen.

Pivot

Then there is the concept of pivoting. When you meet resistance or something is not working as you planned, don’t just give up and say it does not work.

What we hear a lot is that people are saying Ibiza has changed. She has lost her spirit. Well guys, wake up. The world is constantly changing. Fifty years ago people sent letters to each other, now we can use a device that is called a phone.

Adjust your course, do things slightly differently until you find the winning formula. Pivot when you need to and you will get it right at some point.

Conclusion

Is it easy to live in Ibiza? The answer is absolutely not. You need to prepare well just like you would prepare if you were moving to any other place in the world.

When you hit a stone wall don’t give up but pivot. Change direction and keep on moving forward towards your goal.

  1. Saving a lot of money and learning Spanish sure is mostly important. But as long as there is no work for you that pays the high price of living in Ibiza even saved money won’t help with your dream. The first thing definitely is to find a business on Ibiza that is working out summer and winter to pay a living. No matter if you start your own business or if you are going to be an employee. After you have found this you can start making plans. Greetings Sina

  2. Thank you Sina for your wise words you are so right about that… That’s why planning is key…

I can sign quiet everything you are writing here, Marisa &Virgil. However, my plans change more or less permanently. Flexibility is important, if you can’t show up here with a fat purse. But almost everybody who made it here once got some help and hints. Nearly everybody I met could help me with some ideas, inspiration or whatever. And one thing, a friend gave me on the way, changed my view very profound: if things don’t work out as expected, why going back? Why not going on?
